Line Paintings

I followed the first exercise that Paul Klee would have his students at Bauhaus do: to take a line for a walk.

Most of my professional life I've been using the left side of my brain. There was creativity, but it was mostly based on logic, analysis and sequential thinking.

With making art, I want to explore and exercise the right side of my brain more, and let the more funky side of me take the steering wheel. This is a bit scary for me, as it doesn't come natural to me, especially in a new environment.

To push myself forward, and being a fervent student of Paul Klee's works, I followed one of the first exercises that he would have his students at the Bauhaus school do: to take a line for a walk.

As a child, I used to make drawings with a line all the time. I thought it would be rather embarrassing to do this again as a 49-year old.

But actually it was great to reconnect with that part of me.
