Soft Edges
Since I started painting, I have always used rulers and masking tape. I felt that I was ready to graduate myself and go without. So I made the series ‘Soft Edges’, using just charcoal and paint.
Most of my professional life I've been using the left side of my brain, a lot. There was creativity, but it was mostly based on logic, analysis and sequential thinking. And there is beauty in that too. A piece of software code or an API can and should be beautiful, in my opinion.
With making art, I want to explore and exercise the right side of my brain more, and let the more funky side of me take the steering wheel. This is a bit scary for me, as it doesn't come natural to me, especially in a new environment. Letting go of the masking tape and working freehand with charcoal was a great start.
