Details and context

This painting is part of the study ‘Color Blocks’, a series of 16 paintings to better understand the world of colors.

The first color that I wanted to explore was black. I used black in my previous paintings, Carbon Black to be precise, but was intrigued by the other types of black that they had at the art supplies store. Ivory black, Lamp black, Bone Black, Noir de Mars,..all very intriguing names.

So I bought the paints and I was not disappointed! It’s all black, but it comes in many different ways, from translucent to reflective to totally light absorbent. Very cool. 

The painting is named after the song by Amy Winehouse.
