About the work
Lithium is a unique painting from the Color Blocks series, composed of 225 individual color blocks painted in shades of silver, white, grey, iron oxide and black.
The work uses the same fixed grid as the rest of the series, but its palette gives it a quieter, more mineral quality. The surface shifts between light and dark, matte and metallic, soft and dense. Some blocks almost disappear into the structure, while others create sudden points of pressure.
In this work, color is reduced almost to its edge: not bright, but still active. The painting explores how rhythm, depth and tension can emerge from a restrained palette, where small tonal differences become the main source of movement.

About the series
Color Blocks began as a self-imposed color system: 16 paintings, 225 blocks each, 3,600 individual decisions about rhythm, balance, contrast and control.
I had always worked with a deliberately minimal palette. With Color Blocks, I wanted to keep that same sense of discipline, but turn my attention fully to color, to explore its power through repetition, contrast and accumulation.
Each painting follows the same fixed grid. The structure stays constant, but the color changes everything.
