Details & Context
This painting is part of the study ‘Color Block Paintings’, a series of 16 paintings to better understand the world of colors.
First I wanted to name the paintings after gins. It’s a colorless drink but it comes in many beautiful colors and ditto bottles.
I got this idea as I was walking through the liquor aisle in the supermarket in the resolution-heavy first days of January. Our brains are wired to be attracted to colors and all bottles were vying for my attention with their beautiful colors and logos. I wondered how long it will be before alcohol is sold in black and white packaging labelled with photos of kids that died in drunk driving accidents?
The title of this painting is after a line in the song “You Know I'm No Good” by Amy Winehouse.
