"And sniffed me out like I was Tanqueray", 2021
About the work
“And sniffed me out like I was Tanqueray” is a unique painting from the Color Blocks series, composed of 225 individual color blocks painted in eight shades of green.
The work uses a fixed grid, but the surface is not mechanical. Each block carries its own shift in tone, density, brush movement and pressure. The result is a painting that feels structured from a distance, but alive up close.
In this work, green becomes the subject itself: fresh, artificial, organic, luminous and dark at the same time. The painting explores how much variation can exist inside a limited system, and how repetition can create both order and instability.
Series: Color Blocks
Year: 2021
Dimensions: 80 × 80 cm
Materials: Acrylic on gesso on canvas, unvarnished
Type: Unique painting
Certificate: Signed certificate of authenticity included
About the series
Color Blocks began as a self-imposed color system: 16 paintings, 225 blocks each, 3,600 individual decisions about rhythm, balance, contrast and control.
I had always worked with a deliberately minimal palette. With Color Blocks, I wanted to keep that same sense of discipline, but turn my attention fully to color, to explore its power through repetition, contrast and accumulation.
Each painting follows the same fixed grid. The structure stays constant, but the color changes everything.
